Compartment

  • Walls , floors and fire doors are the elements to form the compartmenets in a building
  • The protection to both the surrounding properties and people can be offered by the envelope of the building ( external wall , party wall and roof ) .
  • By Law 86 of the UBBL 1984 states : ... party walls shall generally be of not less than 200mm total thickness of solid masonry or in situ concrete ....
Example 1
E-2-1 . Given a eight sotrey buulding with 4.25m height each floor . Typical floor plan refer to the sketch below . The usage of building is listed as follow . By calculation , comment whether the building compley with the requirement of a safe compartment ( Refer UBBL 5th schedule ) .

(A) If the building used as a shopping complex .
(B) If the building used as a general factory .

(A) Buulding height = 8x 4.25 = 34m square
Compartment volume = 1356 x 4.25 - 5763 cube

Thus floor are alimit 2000 > 1356 square
Compartment volume limit is 7000 m cube  . 5763 m cube .
Comply with uBBl

* Reduce the height or add sprinkler system .
