Seasoning defects

  • Occur due to uneven drying during seasoning 
  • Some distortion are due to self-weight of timber during stacking for seasoning 
  • Rapid moisture change 
  • Surface check , end splits , cupping , spring , bow , twist 
  1. Check ( longitudinal surface rupture across or througfht the annual ring ) . 
  2. Shake (Longitudianl surface rupture between and parallel to annual ring ) . 
  3. Split ( longitudinal rupture passing through the piece and parallel to the fibre direction .
