- Occur due to uneven drying during seasoning
- Some distortion are due to self-weight of timber during stacking for seasoning
- Rapid moisture change
- Surface check , end splits , cupping , spring , bow , twist
- Check ( longitudinal surface rupture across or througfht the annual ring ) .
- Shake (Longitudianl surface rupture between and parallel to annual ring ) .
- Split ( longitudinal rupture passing through the piece and parallel to the fibre direction .
