Carbon Dioxide System ( Non-Water Based System )

  • Mentioned in UBBL 1984 BY Laws 235
  • CO2 is discharged after a delay upon detection ( An alarm will be sounded before CO2 being discharged .
  • Installed in
  • - electrical transformer room
  • -LV switchrooms
  • -Standby generators room
  • -All unoccupied rooms that needed fire protection ( where use of water as the extinguishing agent is not permissible ex CLass E risk areas )
  • Good for flammable liquids , gas fires , fires involving electrically energised equipment and sometimes on carbonaceous material .
  • CO2 is non combustible and spreads rapidly to all parts of the fire .
  • Cannot conduct electricity this making it safe to use in areas having electrically energized equipment
  • It leaves no residue .
  • Although mildly toxic , a 9 percent concentration is the limit that anyone can withstand without being unconscious and a higher limit will render a person helpless almost immediately .
  • Puts fire out by the smothering and cooling effects .
